Blog assessment and feedback from peers – Professional Teacher training

Overview

Group Assessment and feedback

Class was divided into three groups and the task was to present our blogs individually and give assessment to each other by giving grades.

In my group we were 4 individually presenting and giving grades to each other. During the presentations and feedback sessions we tried to understand and give our best assessment possible. At least I tried to be honest and use my time to help someone improve in their blog writing especially reflections. When I presented I also received some important points to consider in the future.

One thing that I need to say about sessions like this is that these sessions has to happen more frequently. This session happened after almost two months. Obviously I have learned from others this time but if these sessions happen more frequently we will be able to learn more from each other. Also we need to remember that feedback if not given on time is a bit to late and useless in many cases.

Overall, it was a nice session and gave me some information about my fellow classmates on their progress and struggles so far. I received some very positive reviews for my writing and some very useful tips for future.

Reflection

One of the students reminded me to discuss in my blogs my improvement from day 1 untill now. What have I learned or improved in my teaching so far. This is a nice reminder and a tip that I need to remember and discuss in my writing. This will surely help me to reflect on my progress.

One thing that came up during the discussion with the whole class and teachers was that different groups gave very similar assessment to each other. This prove my point that sessions like this have to happen often so we are used to giving feedback to each other without being afraid of conflicts. In this case I assuemed that people will give each other similar scores on their assessments and this was exactly the case. There is a suggestion from tutors that we give feedback in our groups and this is what exactly I will do in my group. So that when ever my group mates go out in other groups for teaching they will be ready to get and give feedback.

I am going to use feedback as a tool to improve not only myself but others. I will remind everybody that feedback is given to improve the work and never to take feedback personally.
